brick

Hi everyone! Welcome to a brand-new brick!
Sorry, did I say brick? Of course, I meant

Today, I don't have a big mega news for you, but rather I'll share a couple smaller development things that we're currently working on :]

Blanksword's Upgrades & Meta-Progression

Like a lot of Roguelikes out there (though I'm told in my sword-shaped earpiece that meta-progression means we're making a RogueLITE), Blanksword allows you to make your character permanently stronger in-between runs by spending a resource you gain from - well, going through runs.

We're running the tried-and-true classics, like the ability to increase BLANK's Stats and to unlock useful things that'll make your life in His Country a little less horrible, and we're also working on some fancy and bizarre upgrades, like the one that allows you to restore BLANK's front-door (the one he breaks at the start of the game) to use it as a training dummy, or the one that allows you to carry an apology letter for the shopkeepers you pissed off by trying to attack them (that'll be a real thing).

At the moment, our Upgrade Station is still a work in progress, and it looks like this:

We're in the middle of upgrading (hoho) it to something nicer-looking, but the building blocks are there already! The way this works is simple: after every run, you'll get a special resource called Fractions (we've also been considering "Fractionals"), and how much of it you get depends on BLANK's Level when the run finishes. You can use these to empower BLANK permanently and give him new options in runs that will be there until the end of time (or until you get bored and stop playing)

Tutorialisation & Input Bindings

We've made a lot of progress in terms of making Blanksword more accessible and better-tutorialized, but we're still not done! Now, we have a cute little way of breaking you in on how the controls work when you do your very first run - they're on the floor! You can even walk on them!

We've made a lot of improvements to our input binding system as well, which now plays nice with controller, keyboard & mouse and just-keyboard, and allows players to rebind their inputs to the buttons, keys & clicks of their choosing on every input device.

Aivi & Surasshu on the Kickstarter hahdfklgdflkghdlfkgj

That's right! I can't believe it, you can't believe it (maybe they can't believe it either), but the nicest, coolest and sweetest composer duo in the entire world, Aivi & Surasshu, will be one (well, two) of our Kickstarter Guests! They worked on Steven Universe and Ikenfell, they're involved with an awesome music label, they're genuinely extremely nice to talk to and they'll be contributing a few tracks to Blanksword if the Kickstarter comes through!

Closing words:

Pls follow us on Kickstarter or we'll have to throw Jacques in the Mold again 🥺
