The Fields of Forget-Me-Nots

Hello, friends, family and creatures of His Country!
With our Kickstarter preparations now well underway, we're going to ramp up our Newsletters to a weekly schedule, so expect a lot of insights and previews into all things Blanksword :]

This week's Newsletter is going to showcase one of my favorite areas in the game:

The Fields of Forget-Me-Nots

An endless expanse of blue and green - a small, preserved oasis of peace away from the chaos and violence of His Country.
The Fields of Forget-Me-Nots are one of Blanksword's primary locations.
Their original concept looked something like this:

And now, a couple years and a lot of handiwork down the line, they look something like this:

Remember-Me

You must be wondering about these shadows that follow BLANK around? They're spawned by this guy:

Remember-Me is the Fields of Forget-Me-Nots' primary enemy. Not only does it pester you in the overworld by summoning shadows that follow BLANK's movements and damage him if they come in contact with him, it's also a scary opponent that can make you forget one of your own Moves!

Dynamic Music!!

Something I'm personally very proud of with the Fields of Forget-Me-Nots is the area's reactive music. When there's no enemy, it's just a very peaceful tune, but when Remember-Me is active on the map, you start to hear a clock ticking on the beat of the song - let it tick too many times, and Remember-Me will teleport away to safety.
But there's more! Once you catch up to Remember-Me and start fighting it, the music evolves to ramp up and become very dramatic, as you can hear in the video below (which also showcases Remember-Me's really cool battle screen):

Closing Words

I've intentionally left a big part of the Fields in the dark in this Newsletter and that is, of course, NPCs. In the Fields, you'll find an old codger called Methusalem and his great-great-great-great-great...grand-child, Noli-Me. They have a very nice lore to them, and I've shown them around on our socials before, but I think it's nice to leave some paths for you to discover once you get to walk the grass of His Country yourself, so I won't be saying much more for now :]

Make sure to pay close attention to our socials in the coming weeks, we're revealing our Kickstarter Guests at the moment and we're so excited to show you who's going to work with us on the game! This week, we started with a bang with Splendidland, the gamedev behind Formless Star and one of the artists involved on Deltarune. The next guest is going to blow your socks off, so stay tuned :]

With all my love,

Leaf
